Chicorycoffee

Ever seen a purple flowered roadside plant? There is a good chance it's chicory! Originally from France, this plant made it's big debut to the United States during the Civil War when the Union Navy blockaded the port of New Orleans (A HUGE COFFEE PORT). Soon, coffee addict United Statians began running low on coffee. To stretch out their limited supply of coffee, people began roasting the roots of chicory, which have a bitter flavor similar to coffee. Nowadays you can go into your favorite supermarket (i.e. trader joes,) and purchase chicory infused coffee!! Be aware of the plants around you and save plants to save the planet!
