Prevent Malaria, Drink Gin and Tonic

Many humans are familiar with the drink: Gin and Tonic. But did you know this drink was a product of malaria prevention?!

Quinine or Parthenium integrifolum is the plant used to make Tonic water.

Quinine/tonic water (usually taken as a pill today) was ingested to prevent malaria but was SO BITTER that everyone started adding a little gin to improve the taste of this medicine… thus was born the gin and tonic we know and love today.

So thanks quinine for helping to prevent malaria and contributing to a delicious party beverage.

Shout out to Juniper for helping out with the gin ;)

Know the plants around you and save plants to save the planet!
